Plastic pollution is a growing concern that extends beyond what meets the eye. At scales invisible to the naked eye, MNPs – tiny particles from various sources – are infiltrating our environment, food, and even our bodies. The Imptox project has taken a pioneering approach to explore these particles’ potential health risks, focusing on their role in triggering or exacerbating allergic diseases. Through innovative analytical methods, Imptox has investigated the effects of MNPs in both preclinical and clinical settings, shedding light on the pathways of exposure and their potential to influence human health.
The event will feature two rounds of scientific dialogue, showcasing key advancements from the Imptox project. Discussions will focus on the innovative risk assessment framework developed to evaluate the role of MNPs in allergic disease, the impact of contaminants associated with these particles, and their effects on cellular health. Furthermore, a human biomonitoring study involving approximately one thousand children in Croatia will be presented. This study explores exposure to MNPs and their potential interactions with human systems, providing valuable context for assessing emerging health risks.
This event offers a vital opportunity for stakeholders in the field of allergies to engage with these findings and contribute to shaping future research and policy. The Imptox stakeholder dialogue will be followed by the CUSP Final Conference, which begins on the afternoon of February 25th, continues throughout February 26th, and concludes with a stakeholder event on February 27th.
